This brief message is to inform you that we will be upgrading our server this weekend commencing on Saturday at 1pm. We estimate that this will take 12-15 hours to complete in total.
BRIEF HISTORY
While our server had been performing well, in January we took the initiative to upgrade it with a view to improve the overall speed and reliability of the service. In doing this we upgraded to SSD drive, increased disk capacity and more RAM. Unfortunately this did not have the desired effect and we were experiencing some issues we were working through with our datacentre.
Last week we had some major issues with database corruptions which saw us out of action for half the day on Wednesday. While this has now been rectified and our resources increased yet again, we have made the decision to move to another datacentre based in Sydney and upgrade to a larger dedicated server with way more resources than we actually need. Along with this we will be more responsive in our server support as well.
For the geeks - this upgrade includes moving to NVMe SSD drives which are reportedly 25 times faster than standard drives (like we were using last year) and 5 time faster than the normal SSD drive. We will also increase our disk capacity x 8, quadruple our RAM and double our CPU's which basically means one hell of a fast machine!
IN SUMMARY
While the migration should be seamless we may experience some slow loading of sites in that time. We hope to finalise everything by early Sunday morning and redirect the name server to the new datacentre.
